“YOGA is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self”
Yoga is an art as well as a science. It is science, because it offers practical methods for controlling body and mind, thereby making deep meditation possible. Yoga is a spiritual science of self-realisation. It comes from India and goes back over five thousand of years. The perceptions derived from its practice form the backbone of the greatness of India, which for centuries has been legendary.
Yoga sutra defines yoga as the control of the activities of the mind. Yoga methods encompass the entire field of our existence, from the physical, emotional and mental to the spiritual. Its methods include ethical disciplines, physical postures, breath control, as well as meditation.
Yoga improves blood circulation in the body, and the functioning of many organs and systems, such as the digestion, etc. It also removes stiffness, strengthens and lengthens muscles, improves flexibility, posture and stamina. Meditation reduces stress, anxiety, depression, anger and frustration.
