Trip to Karandhamalai
The Road less travelled
"Mountains are the beginning and the end of all natural scenery” – John Ruskin
On the 9th of July, 2016 The Adventure Club of QMIS organized a trip to Karandhamalai which is 45kms away from the school. The students along with 15 teachers started their adventurous journey at 8.00 am from the school. At around 10.00 am the bus reached Karandhamalai.
“The best view comes after the hardest climb”
Karanthamalai hills of Tamil Nadu lies in the southern most part of the Eastern Ghats. One of the biggest characteristics of Eastern Ghats lies in its being extremely fertile. In fact, the Ghat is said to be the watershed of many rivers as it gets the higher average waterfall. Due to higher rainfall, the fertile land results into better crops.
Karandamalai also holds the rich floral system. It is a region where one may find large number of medicinal plants. Children did enjoy becoming botanists.
The Team QMIS, with so much enthusiasm and excitement started the trekking on the rough terrain of the hill. The walk with nature was so meaningful and it refreshed the children’s heart and soul. It is usually said that nature is so powerful and capturing its essence is not easy, but our little Nature Photographers were able to capture the true beauty of it by just one click. Nature is not a place to visit but it is a home. This was evident when the place was found filled with rocks that served the purpose of chairs; the children were able to relish their lunch peacefully. Regaining energy the children quickly trekked down the slope of the hill. On reaching the foot hills of Karandhamalai, the return journey started with loads of memories and information to be shared with their kith and kin. Though it was a little tiring, the experience of trekking truly fascinated, amused, inspired, and educated the children on endurance and courage.
“After climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb.”
