Diwali is the time to enjoy delicious sweets, light bright lamps, sparkling celebration and bursting of crackers. To inculcate the spirit of festivity and teach the significance behind each and every festival India celebrates, we held a day of Diwali celebration on the 10th of November, 2012. The day started with the children exploding into the campus with their bright and vibrant festive clothes, spreading cheer with their exuberance to celebrate the festival. It was just the indication of what was in store. The festivities began in the morning around 10am with a prayer song by the choir and a power point presentation by Ms. Sumitha Shivraj on the significance of Diwali. An interactive session ensued wherein the children posed questions on different aspects of the festival. A devotional song sung by the girls of Grade V and VI kept the children enthralled. A skit on "Diwali with a difference" urged the children to say "No to fire crackers" .A Hindi song was sung by the nightingales of QMIS following which was a splendid dance performance by the nimble footed dancers of Grade V & VII. The children then moved to the grounds where Ms. Maallika Kather gave a short instructional demonstration on safety measures to be followed while bursting crackers with a live demo of bursting firecrackers and sparklers. The campus reverberated with the sounds of firecrackers and children's laughter.
To share the spirit of the festival of diwali and to celebrate it with the less fortunate, few children from Grade V. VI and VII were taken to two shelter homes for children at Muthupatti. The children carried with them lots of sweets, crackers and loads of goodwill and gave it to the children at the homes.
The day ended with lot of smiles of happiness and satisfaction.
