Camping at Periyar Tiger Reserve
Such an exciting Adventure Club camping activity of young QMIS’ans started on November 28th, 2014 at 7.00am from QMIS. The two night stay at woods took the children into the world of adventure through multiple activities all aimed at developing the endurance of the children.
The 72 campers and 7 staff started the exploration into the adventurous zone through the Pugmark trail. Since the bites of the leeches were new to most of us who were trekking, there was lots of dancing to the tunes of the leeches. The swampy and slippery soil made the trek all the more challenging. Nature walk is a 13 km long trekking experiences provided to the children after rafting through bamboo into the thick blankets of the jungle. Exploring the various species of animals in the reserve the children accomplished the task at ease. Green walk is yet another expedition of the campers where in they cherished the aroma of the jungle by trekking around 5km.
Teams also experienced the wilderness during night and contributed towards forest protection by joining the regular forest protection party as a paid volunteer. This Jungle scout was the most favourite part for all the campers.
Team also had fun on both the days’ evenings by enjoying the tradition and culture of Kerala. The tunes of the tribal captivated the audiences through the tribal dance show and the Kerala’s martial arts Kalari payyittu mesmerized the campers the next day. The graders 4 to 6 were taken on a Jeep Safari – a 45km scenic drive exploring the plantations and enjoyed the nature’s fragrance by visiting the Spice Garden. The untiring three days and two night trip came to a halt on 30.11.14 with a short shopping at Thekkady. Carrying loads of experiences sumptuous till the next camping , we all reached QMIS after taking a short halt at Penniquick’s memorial and Vaigai Dam.
