World Environment Day Rally Report – 3rd August 2013
Around 200 odd Students and Staff of Queen Mira International School were on an Environmental Rally reiterating the responsibility of the society in protecting the world we live in, from pollution and demonstrated their responsibility by cleaning one of the heritage sites of Madurai.
The World, we all share, is given to us in trust. Every choice we make regarding the earth, air and water around us should be made with the objective of preserving it for all generations to come. Understanding this, our school has its vision as to educate the leaders of tomorrow who will be a change factor in the society. To develop them into responsible citizens the school had planned for an Environmental Rally from Wakf Board College Madurai to Gandhi Museum via 80 feet road KK Nagar, District High court - Madurai, Raja Muthiah Mahal and Law College.
Dr.Chandran, the Chairman while talking to the press expressed that the ground water level has gone alarmingly down and the people must wake up now and try to do their part to improve the condition. He also opined that the plastic bags are the greatest threat in our modern life due to which the environment is getting polluted. This rally was organized mainly to bring awareness among the common man about these problems. He revealed that the students of QMIS have been involving themselves in such activities time to time and will continue to do so in future too.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police for traffic, Madruai City Mr.Ellappa Raj B.A, B.L, flagged off the rally at 8.00 am in the presence of Dr. Chandran, the Chairman of Queen Mira International School and Abinath Chandran, the Director of the school. The rally started from Wakf Board College led by the Chairman, the Director and the Assistant Commissioner of police and followed by the students and staff of the Queen Mira International School. The students walked enthusiastically and reached the Gandhi Museum. The students and the staff members started their campus cleaning activity at 9.30 am and concluded around 12 noon.
