ThinkLab Activity Phase II

ThinkLab Activity Phase II

The Science club was in full swing during Term ‘II’; Graders 4 to 8 were given opportunities to learn and perform activities during their Think Lab sessions. Through these activities, students were able to learn the theory concepts with ease. These activities made it very simple for them to understand the basics in a better way and hence exhibited great eagerness in doing these activities.

Experiments handled in the sessions were

Grade Name of the Activity Concept / Learning Outcome
4 Test the sweets The activity developed a better understanding on how Solid cannot be compressed to change their volume; Liquids cannot change volume but can change shape and Gases can increase or decrease in volume.
Pure Water What can contaminate water? And Importance of safe water to our health and environment.
An Elastic Powered Car The activity demonstrated the concept that the large wheels are effective over rough terrain than small wheels.
Travel Gamer The activity created a better understanding about different aspects of travel from ticket reservation to mode and cost of transport.
5 Hand Pump The activity demonstrated on how the pumps will send out jet of water when pressure is applied with the help of valves to the vacuum space.
Eco Oven The activity explained that energy can be converted from one form to another. Light energy was transferred to heat energy when it absorbed the solar energy.
Grabber The activity created a better understanding that how a simple grabber can be made using scientific principles, including force, levers, and friction to carry out hazardous tasks.
Mighty Fly The activity explained how an outward force throws an object outward from the center of rotation and restraining force which is opposite and equal to outward force keeps the object in its rotation path.
Flute and Snake The activity explained that snakes are not mesmerized by the music of snake charmer as it cannot hear but it sways with the movement of the flute as they consider it to be a predator like the snake charmer.
6 Magic Rod Students were able to categorize materials on the basis of transparency, translucency, and opacity.
Laser Reflection Students were able to demonstrate that light travels in a straight line.
Electric Torch Students were able to understand, study the components of electric circuit and make the electric circuits using simple components.
7 Stethoscope They learnt what heartbeats are, why they are produced and the instrument that helps to amplify sound of heart beats.
Spin The Coil Students were able to make a working model to understand the phenomenon of the magnetic effect of electric current.
8 Sound Travel This activity was able to understand that sound requires a medium to propagate. It also helped to study the travelling of sound from solid to air and liquid to air medium.
Membrano Horn This activity helped to understand that sound is produced due to vibrations.
Fun Pen This activity helps to understand that some liquid solutions undergo chemical changes when electricity passes through them. Process of electrolysis and its different components were also learnt.
Copper Plating This helped to understand the process of coating copper on another metal.
